Geology Art for Sale by Joeallen Gibson
“Geoism” is a term that I use to describe the style of my work. My paintings have a wide range of textures created by sculpting earthen materials and using native dyes whenever possible. I also use a wide range of other media to express the textures needed to capture geologic concepts and the beauty of nature.

Mixed Media on Canvas 24" X 36" $1,495.00
This painting depicts a geologic cross section. Oil and gas being lighter than rock floats to the high spots in rock formations, unless it finds an impervious layer it would keep migrating upward until it reached the surface. In fact in the old days they would find pools of oil on the surface of the ground. However, today oil is underground having been trapped in high spots that are sealed by a non-porous layer such as shale. The job of the geologist is to explore for areas where oil and gas might be trapped. In this painting I set out to create a cross section that has as many possible traps as possible. If I was still working at an oil company and presented this cross section, management would be very excited.
